Take a Look at Your Business Cards:
The Success of Your Image May Be On Your Card
Every time we meet a new business associate, we trade cards and make and receive first impressions. That lasting impression will stay with us through the ups and downs of the business relationship. We hear a lot about "dressing for success" and the "right" office decor, yet the printed image that represents you is just as important.
You should think of leaving your business card like leaving behind a portrait of yourself and your business-something to remember you by. It is like a small billboard advertising your business while you re not there. If you are not portraying yourself adequately, then you are cheating yourself and not getting the full benefit of handing out your cards. A non-descript card will not be distinguished among the hundreds a person collects. The message your card conveys can be friendly, assertive, professional, high tech or trendy. Or it can display any other trait you desire. It is not necessary for the type to be tiny. It can be half an inch high or run off the edges of the card.
Your logo can be the focal point of your card. It doesn't need to be small and pushed in a corner. It can take up two-thirds of the card, or it can be faintly seen over the entire background. A logo is more than jut a circle with your initials intimately arranged. A logo should be designed with your ultimate goal in mind, not where you are now, but where you want to be in years to come. For too many companies a logo is something that was hastily designed when they were small and which they outgrew as completely as they outgrew their first office.
No need to be timid about color: Many cards you see are on white paper with black ink. In fact, there are about 700 different colors of card paper available and around a thousand standard colors of ink. With those ink colors, there are several thousand more variations. If you need more-the 4 basic colors of red, yellow, blue and black can be combined to make 12,012 more colors. With all this color available, it is possible to have a totally unique image on your cards through the use of color alone.
And why not inch-high letters in shiny green foil-if that will let your business image, and personality, shine through.
